We Were Loved!

by A. Willow Bends

I wish all children had a childhood like mine,
surrounded by a family warmth
that made nearly every moment shine.
We weren't spoiled. We weren't wealthy.
We had needs met to be healthy.
AND . . . we were LOVED!
We play outside until sundown,
took road trips just to ride.
We had grandparents, even "greats".
We had them on both sides.
We got together often, playing games and having fun.
We had pets, badmitton nets
AND . . . we were LOVED!
WE caught some hell from time to time.
I was somewhat of a rebel,
but through it all I always knew
if there were ever trouble-REAL trouble,
WELL . . . I was LOVED!
THIS I wish all children had.
All deserve this base,
to have someone just hug them tight
and look them in the face and say . . .
