In my memory bank
I have my mother to thank
For lifestyle and skills
And climbing steep hills

The dining room table
Meals to enable
At set times each day
That was her way

Simple healthy fare
Stomach upsets rare
Waste not, want not
Had to eat the lot

She taught me to knit
Sew garments to fit
If something should rend
She showed how to mend

Insisted on phrases two
Please and thank you
Acknowledgement for presents
Whatever the contents

She installed in me
The love of poetry
And books abounded
To keep me rounded

I wish she was here this Mother's Day
To give her thanks for showing me the way
