Latchkey kid

by jenintorre

Didn't have much of a childhood really.
My parents were never touchy feely.
Never knew what it was to be hugged and kissed.
Still what I didn't know I suppose I never missed.

They were always out. I was a latchkey kid.
Didn't matter to them what I did.
I was no trouble, always quick to obey.
They were happy as long as I kept out of their way.

Now I'm grown with kids of my own.
I love them with all my heart.
I treasure each moment I spend with them
and am so sad if we're ever apart.
