The Farmer's Pond

by krys123

A  perfectly placid day on this mirror-like pond, as my fishing line lies limp.

Ironically funny, that I'm fishing at this same farmer's pond, whose wife I've been seeing for awhile. In fact, Laura and I met here at the pond.
Suddenly, I see my line tighten! It slowly recedes and becomes quickly taut again.
I've got a bite and a good one.
Sitting up, grabbing my pole firmly, I start reeling it in, slowly,
but it's not fighting, it's just dragging like dead weight.
It's taking all my strength and this load's heavy enough to break my line.
There, something appearing at the surface of the water. a mangled face, it's bloated,  it's barely clothed, as black-flies swarm around. It's Laura's husband, the farmer!

I look around and see Laura, the fisherman's wife, high upon a hill and looking down with binoculars, "Fancy that, " I mumbled while waving.
