Happy childhood memories of the 60's!

Happy Days

by Boogienights

I remember the 60's
A turbulent time of unrest.
Despite that,
as a child then I thought life was the best!

Wasn't old enough for woodstock,
couldn't wear the hippy clothes.
But my mother bought me bell bottoms,
close enough I suppose!

Do you remember Fizzies?
I thought that they were grand!
We couldn't afford soda then,
so we kept them close at hand!
Two tablets dropped in water,
some ice to make it cold.
Served up in a metallic glass,
that got too cold to hold!

Remember Gilligan's Island?
One of my favorite shows!
Along with Batman, Lassie and The Andy Griffith Show!

We'd play games in the alley,
of batteries there was no need!
Just imagination and a lot of energy!
Playing Red light-Green light, Statues
and freeze tag was lot's of fun!
We'd stay out 'till our mother's voices
caused us all to run.

That and the music from the ice cream truck,
got us on our feet.
We knew when we heard the music play,
it was coming down the street!
Those lucky enough to have some dimes,
would get a tasty treat!

T.V. dinners were a wonder,
a meal in a metal tray!
Could it get any better than this?
I could eat them every day.

Remember Penny candy?
It now does not exist.
Two candies for a penny!
We just could not resist.

Today's music does not compare,
The Beatles were ALL the rage!
Myself...?
I was a Monkees fan,
they definitaly were my fave!

So much has changed,
since those halcyon days.
An adult I grew to be.
Gone are all my carefree ways,
replaced by memories.

I wish I could go back for a day,
to see what I could see.
I'd say hi to a sweet shy girl,
the younger version of me.
