Someone is missed

A chapter in the book A Potpourri of Poetic Curiosities

The homecoming

by CD Richards

I know there's times that you must go away
But I just thought I'd take this chance to say
I'm never happy 'til you're back once more
My spirits lift when you walk through the door
My wish is that you're back this time to stay
I need you each and ev'ry centiday

I swear this poem is about a dog waiting impatiently for his best friend to come home. No correspondence will be entered into.

Today's word: centiday (n.) 1/100th of a day (or 14 minutes and 24 seconds, but who's counting?)

My much-treasured Christmas present for 2017 is a book by Paul Anthony Jones: "The cabinet of linguistic curiosities". Each page contains a descriptive story about some obscure or archaic word. It occurred to me it would be a fun exercise to try and write, each day, a poem featuring the "word of the day" from the book.

Thanks for reading.
