Might as Well Be Friends

by Connie C

Now listen up, my little friend,
I've been top dog around this place.
Looks like my reign's come to an end
since you moved in and took my space.

I ask you, what's a dog to do
when suddenly I'm pushed aside
with all the focus now on you,
this baby who's their source of pride.

We can't play fetch, you don't walk yet,
you crawl and follow me around.
No fun are you, so I don't get
why love for you is so profound.

But then, I guess you're just like me.
We're both quite cute and cuddly too.
Since you're part of our family,
it's time that I befriended you.

This is a picture of our granddaughter, Madeline, who is suddenly crawling all over the place and is quite curious about the family dog.
Thank you for reading.
