A survivor missing a deceased friend

Just My Mind (Playing Tricks on me.)

by nomi338

You entered my life and became my friend
Never did I think our fun times would end
By the good grace of God, like two peas in a pod
We started growing old together

Not gracefully or complacently
We at least had each other's sympathetic company
Then much too soon you were gone

Now I walk the empty halls of time
Searching each room for some small sign
Of the friend who once was, but is no longer mine

Sometimes I think I see your face
Then as my pulse begins to race
I feel like I'm in outer space
because as I can finally see
It is just my mind playing tricks on me

I think I hear you call my name
and as my heart starts to fill with pain
I wonder if I am going insane
Because as I turn around to see
Again it's my mind playing tricks on me

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
My instincts I can no longer trust
My heart fills up with misery
My mind keeps playing these tricks on me

Old friend you must know this
You were always loved, you are always missed.

Recognized

This poem was written in honor of two women I was lucky enough to become friends with, the one who was a chain smoker died of lung cancer. The survivor along with me and many others mourn her passing every day..
