A little girl does her part in ending the drought.
The Biggest Sacrifice
by Beck Fenton
The drought had dried up almost all the water. Her father had sold all of the cattle, except for Daffy, the milk cow, and one bony horse. He said they all had to sacrifice. Susie carried Midget to the riverbed to be sacrificed. She took the stolen scissors from her pocket and stabbed many times. By the time she returned home rain clouds were forming in the sky. Maybe Mama would make her another doll.
