Poem Contest Entry

Taking Her Words

by Ogden

This contest is a ruse by a plotting scribe, I believe,
who thinks she has a killer Christmas poem up her sleeve.

My goal is to focus on crossing her up, and keeping my cool;
   I will sidestep the Christmas tree.
By falling for “fir,” I’d be playing the fool;
“Present” is too obvious, in my view, so that’s out, too.
‘“Flexible Flyer’” is a sled from my youth, (a fantastic gift, to tell the truth).
So that’s three words covered, out of seven, leaving four “spacious,” “dipper,” "door," “lilac’," and "air."
So, now, for me, this slick contest is fair.

Okay, crafty poetess, let’s all see your best shot,
and let the voters evaluate the worth of what you’ve got.

(Of course, this is a hunch;
If I'm wrong, I eat humble pie for lunch.)
