Qualified Eyes

by Pamusart

Your qualified eyes can pierce through his armor
Perceiving the beauty in this peaceful farmer.

He once was a soldier and carried his sword
Unsheathed and ready to kill for his lord.

He had as his targets all other young men
Whose uniforms differed from those he was in.

Then, one day he dreamt that they were his brothers
But, people in power defined them as others.

And, when he awoke, he knew the whole truth.
To powerful men, they're disposable youth.

Recognized

A former soldier has an epiphany. He realizes that war is pointless and just a game played by powerful men. Her qualified eyes are due to the fact that she understands that he is a man of peace, a peaceful farmer. I definitely appreciate the service of the men and women in our military, but, I do not want them to die for no benefit as happened in Vietnam.

This is for Roy Owen and Tony Bronk who recently wrote poems with the same concept
