Past and present reflections

Both her and I

by Boogienights

When I look in the mirror,
what do I see?
An image of a person,
that looks kind of like me.
My hair's turned quite thinner,
and grayer with time.
It no longer shimmers,
but that's not a crime.

My skin has some wrinkles,
I hate to admit,
but not enough creases
to cause a big fit.
My eyes haven't changed much,
they're still green, clear and bright,
no matter that I wear glasses
while reading at night.

The mirror unfailingly
shows me how I look now.
Not too bad looking for my age.
Yet while my reflection
shows only the truth,
somehow...
my mind turns to a different page.
To the memory of a young girl,
with a heart just like mine,
A future filled with laughter,
and love she would find.

Every dream that she had came true
just like mine did,
a life lived with gusto,
she gave it all she could give.
That young girl and I
are one of a kind.
One there in the mirror,
the other in my mind...
and I like them both,
neither one would I trade,
until time runs out for us
and the light starts to fade.
