A fun poem.

The Belle of the Ball.

by brenda bickers

I bought myself a new dress for the dance--
was just the perfect size fits to a tee,
and hoped that I would get a second glance--
tonight, I’ll be the belle atop the tree.
But vanity was blind, I could not see.
A voice from in the crowd called out to shout,
"Don’t worry now your secret's safe with me;
for style, now you have without a doubt.
I see that jumble sale has given clout,
for that’s the dress last year that I threw out."

The Decuain (pronounced dec won), created by Shelley A. Cephas, is a short poem made up of 10 lines, which can be written on any subject. There are 10 syllables per line and the poem is written in iambic pentameter.

There are 3 set choices of rhyme scheme:

ababbcbcaa, ababbcbcbb, or ababbcbccc

I chose the last option ababbcbccc.
