In The Shadows Lurks My Enemy

by poetwatch

Darkness falls and shadows stir.
As I turn off the lights,
there are sounds all around.
Crickets fiddle and bees buzz,
playing their symphony for me to hear.
It's a haunting harmony from the grave.
Then, the ivories blow up their bones
and my heart starts to hammer my head.
My soul screams as a scraping sound
wanders the walls. My skin crawls
as fear fills my soul. It's coming from the closet!
No! It's over me dark and deadly. I see it descending,
a creature with calculating eyes,
and I kill my enemy.
I hate spiders.

Writing Prompt
Write a 10-15 line free verse poem about a phobia you may have. We all have something that very much frightens us. No rhyming patterns.

Since I got bitten while working in my garden and almost died I have a healthy hate for all spiders with the exception of the tarantula. The cricket and bees are symptoms of tinnitus. The ivories blow up are when cells explode inside the brain. Soon I shall lose what I have, but I do hate spiders.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
