A Mother's Grace

by brenda bickers

So blessed was I the perfect day when first I saw your face,
for in your arms you cradled me with flare and joy and grace.
While there you kept me safe and warm and always with a smile,
responsibilities  you took with elegance and style.
Now as the years have passed us by, your love remains the same,
for even when I faltered you were there to share my shame.
You’ve shown me how to live my life and taught what’s right from wrong--
it’s unconditional free love that makes your children strong.
Now in the twilight of your years I hear you call my name,
and holding hands you reassure your love will still remain.
And from the cradle to the grave you kept your promise true,
then said goodbye, and with a sigh, you spread your wings and flew.
Yet still you speak straight to the heart, a bond that never dies,
for no one else can take the place where mother’s love still lies.

Mother's Day Poetry Contest contest entry

This poem is about how a mother loves unconditionally throughout her child's life and that child showing love and appreciation when the mother is in need of love and compassion. Saying goodbye is the hardest thing to do but to know that their love will remain will be a great comforter. Even in death a mother still loves.
