A Valentine Poem

My Darling Boy, My Valentine

by Leineco

        My darling boy, my Valentine,
        it's February once again -
I'm still yours and you're still mine
and so, for forty years it's been.

It's not our style to celebrate
with roses red or ribboned hearts...
to wine and dine, or venerate
Sir Cupid's aim with gold-tipped darts.

Our bond has wove into a nest
we've feathered with the comfort of
how well we've weathered every test
that threatened to derail our love.

Now sappy gifts and florid cards
we once exchanged and reveled in,
the bonbons wrapped in gold foil guards –
have worn their welcome wan and thin.

But every year I pen new rhymes
expressing what it means to me
that we have shared our life and times
        along this path of destiny

And so, dear man, my Valentine,
              it's February once again;
I'm still yours and you're still mine –
just as for forty years it's been.

My husband and I celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary last year,
but since we were married in August, it wasn't until this year we could
commemorate our 40th Married Valentine's Day :-)

(Although, in truth it is our 47th Valentine's Day Together, as we met
and started dating during our junior year of High School [1970-71])

He won't see this until tomorrow - so I appreciate any suggestions for
changes before I hand write the actual message on fancy paper :-)
