My Biggest Mistake

Annaâ??s Drawer

by LoannaLois

In the drawer were tangled chains,
rings and pins and pearls.
I wondered of each story there
worn 'round her neck and curls.

The last she wore her pearls of cream,
she placed them back with care-
knowing it might be the last time
she would find them there.

Each precious memory Ann had worn
with grace and class adorned.
But someone (jealous of Ann's gifts),
became a woman; scorned.

"Why?" Ann wondered woefully,
did jealously provide
a reason for her friend to hate;
a reason friendship died.

Just because Ann fell in love,
with one her friend had claimed,
that didn't mean that no less love
from her could not be flamed.

But her old friend had plans you see
and jealously was queen.
She made up lies and told mean tales
of such, no one had seen.

Yes, I believed the little snake
and asked my Ann to leave!
She looked at me with disbelief
and thus; began to grieve.

How narrow-minded I had been;
so duped in every way.
Now left with someone I despised,
I cleaned Ann's drawer today.

Rhyming Poem contest entry

I once came upon an old box of jewelry that a past beau had given. It surprised me how many memories were also uncovered.
