Perserverence
The Tiny Leaf
One tiny leaf was left alone atop the barren tree,
and there he hung all by himself for all the world to see.
His friends were gathered down below, upon the frozen ground,
where they were waiting patiently, so still, no rustling sound.
The little leaf held back his tears. He wanted nothing more
than breaking free and floating, drifting to the forest floor.
He hung there for two days and nights, each colder than the last.
Though shivering and shaking hard all through the arctic blast.
His little stem stayed fastened tight. No freedom was in sight.
He thought now he would surely die suspended one more night.
But just before he gave up hope, decided he would try
to loose himself from off this limb and to the ground he’d fly.
His friends still lying underneath this tree were shouting cheers.
“Come on, come on, sweet little leaf, and tuck away your fears.”
He gathered all the strength he had to take this final thrust.
While twisting this way, turning that, there came a great big gust.
The tiny leaf fell to the earth and joined his pals in play.
You may have heard the celebrations going on that day.
The news spread through the woodland, over every hill and dale,
and every Spring, each new-born bud’s encouraged by this tale.
