Riding in Cars

by Stacia Ann

David is waiting at the curb. He jumps out when he sees me and opens the door. My knees weaken.

I get in, a princess in fur coat and high heels.

I swivel as he settles in his seat. "I missed you."

He turns at the same time. "Missed you."

We stop and laugh.

I gaze into his velvet brown eyes. And see my past, present, and future.

We will ride together in cars forever.

A movie a few years back was called "Riding in Cars with Boys," but titles are not copyrightable. And the title so perfectly sums up American courtship.
