Death and Taxes

Morte et Tributa

by Delahay

Watching your lover holding his gun
It's melting like a candle in the sun
The trees with limbs bent in defeat
Drag him to the ground at your feet

Shadows hide in the darkness of night
Waiting to come out of hiding in the light
The time has come to start anew
Only your heart knows what to do

The doomed and damned in fear and hurt
Become food of worms, consumed into dirt
Calling on their spirits to enlightened view
Is a pointless task, they won't answer you

I stepped into darkness at the edge of the day
Great waves washed against us into the bay
Huge armies fighting 'till they're weary of war
Finally learning that's what they were for

Like an empty vessel floating on the tide
We're pushed along, thankful for the ride
Left floating along with nowhere to go
Trying to answer questions we don't know

I feel like someone's crawling in my head
I woke up one day on the wrong side of dead
Too late now there's a glow in the east
Looks like I'll now have a seat at the feast
