Help for sonnet writers

On Writing A Sonnet

by jaybird1

If your desire is strong to write with soul
and cadenced flow become your major goal,
rein in your writing with great brevity
and paint your scene with vivid imagery.

Compassion, love are thoughts that will inspire,
are greater gifts that help to light the fire.
Seek satire, seek simile along the way,
let them add clarity to what you say.

Along with metaphors, please take the time
for lilt and spirit with some pleasing rhyme.
Call your muse for extra concentration
and always allow alliteration.

Fourteen lines, with ten syllables per line,
come on, keep writing, you are doing fine.
