Open The Door

by Maria Jose Garcia

Open the door.
Please let me in.
It's cold and dreary,
Can't you see me?

I'm poor, I'm dirty.
I have no clothes.
Will you please
Just let me in?

I know you see me,
I'm in your conscience.
When you ignore me,
Your soul bleeds pain.

Your plates are golden,
You wear silver.
I pray for spring,
I fear the rain.

In your big house,
There's no compassion.
You look through me
Right at the wall.

Remember, friend,
There will be a day.
When you and I
Will look the same.
