My Tenth Birthday Gift

by Boogienights

An object Contest Winner
It's a little chipped around the edges,
Tarnished to some degree,
the gold tone heart shaped bracelet
that my father gave to me.
It was on my tenth birthday,
to say the least money was tight.
I'm not sure to this day where he got it,
but my heart was thrilled that night.
A tiny pearl rested on a flower,
next to my misspelled name.
My father never noticed,
and of course I didn't say,
that my name so carefully engraved
contained an extra A.
He wrapped it up in tissue,
it meant the world to me,
because it came straight from his heart,
given so lovingly.
More than forty years have passed by,
I still take it out to see,
that gold tone heart shaped bracelet
my father gave to me.
