A poem to celebrate diwali

Diwali festival of lights

by chcbeck

Diwali the festival of light
In different regions, different meanings.
Waiting the return of Rama and Sita,
After fourteen years in exile.
Lakshmi the goddess of wealth,
Invited by the lights.

Five day festival of honours.
Earthenware oil lamps, called diyas are set out.
Spring clean the home,
To welcome the goddess of wealth,
Invited into your homes, your life.
Visually spectacular, both homes and public places,
Adorned with beautiful lights.
Lavish meals, brand new clothes.

Open houses, open doors and windows.
Fireworks, huge displays.

Light over dark.
Ignorance squashed by knowledge.
Good over evil.
Health and wealth.
Treats of sweets and fruit.
Start of a new year.
