A queen bee heads to the city

Bee Fable

by oliver818

The queen opened her eyes and stared down at the pile of eggs around her legs.

"There must be more to life than this," she thought, laying another egg. "I'm far too smart for this place. I should move to the city."

The drones buzzed sleepily and the queen rose off her nest, heading for the exit.

Odors of mountain flowers surrounded her as she flew towards the city.

The city lights disoriented her and she flopped to the ground.

"Are you okay?" a voice asked her.

"I think so," she buzzed.

" I'm Lilly."

"I'm Queenie."

"You're new to the city, right? If you want, I have a place and you're welcome to stay there as long as you like."

"That's so generous of you. Actually, I'm hoping to become famous."

"Famous, eh? What can you do?"

"Lots of things. I'm sure that in a big city like this I'll be able to find my place."

"Of course you can."

The queen was ecstatic. Then all of a sudden she noticed that they were heading into a garden with boxes, and a familiar buzz was coming out of them.

"Sorry Queenie, but I need you for something very different. My queen bee died, and you are perfect to take her place."

The queen tried to fly but she was still dizzy. The lid slipped shut over her. Around her were drones, hungry looks on their faces.

The queen bee buzzed sadly. "I guess the moral of this story is, the big city really is a dangerous place for country girls."
