Celebration of a Nation

by Aussie

We salute the brave horsemen
The Light Horse Brigade
Eight hundred men
Thundered down desert hills

Sweating men, sweating horses
Sabres raised, horses gagging
Towards the wells of Beersheba
Young horsemen without fear

So long ago they saved the day
Jumped the Turk's trenches
Slashed their way
Sabres and bullets took the day

Brave young men, gallant steeds
Fighting the enemy
Blazing sun, desert heat
We owe our freedom for that day

The 4th Light Horse Brigade thundered down towards the precious water-wells of Beersheba. Our horsemen were fearless, we thank them for saving many and celebrate 100 years since that fateful day October 31 1917. The Battle of Beersheba. WW1
