Cold autumn night

Winds Slash

by HarryT

Out my window in waning light
I witness winter's mounting might
Winds slash, shiver backyard trees
Bending harshly in brutal breeze
Northern gusting, walloping blows
Harbingers of whirling, blinding snows

Crack, a branch fractures falls unlashed
Plunges through naked limbs unabashed
Bounces upon the cold, cold ground
Tumbled brown leaves swirl around
Tussle and trundle across tawny lawns
Signal end to romantic summer liaisons

Pop on my scratched, archaic teapot
Like my tea strong, steaming hot
Flip book pages by the blazing fire
Love to read, sip tea, before I retire

Slip under bed-covers warm and soft
Glad to be in my own cozy, comfy loft
I will sleep well this late autumn night
To you, a wish for a cheery, dream flight
