A perfect month for the love of a child

Hello October!

by RGstar

Hello October!
Hello October, tell me, "how do you do?"
Please accept now my wishes, and wish them true
If I stomp just a little--silly thing new
That only happens when I say; "I love you"

It's true, I, October...your colours depend
Sharpened all my crayons as to yellows blend
Apricot, lemon, ginger leaves I intend
Along with autumn apples; for Mother, I've penned

How wonderful, October, seasons of red
Some say to warn insects of winter ahead
I think about this often, books having read
Plum-orange curtains aid the views from my bed

Tis true, October, I await you each year
From school, daydreams and visions so clear
My heart overflows with each thought of you near
When suddenly I much, cannot bear

A secret I'll tell, though I love you, I do
I've not been too honest of my love for two
Hope you'll not mind sharing, though out of the blue
You see, dear October, you're my birthday too

Love Poem Poetry Contest contest entry

Wanted to keep this one simple, the way a child sees without complications of scenarios and words, either for show, or complex thoughts. Nice to be able to do that sometimes as we seem to focus too much on love as an adult entity, or even poems of love must be adult orientated, but I disagree, for a child has its own importance to love. Love it is not owned, in category, by any gender or age. It can be sometimes at its most simple, where through a child's eyes, can be very different, but equally as giving, if not more...especially of things we have come to expect. I write for the other of my favorite competitions each year through the eyes of a child, for how purer could love be?

"A new study of thousands of breeds of apple trees bolsters a claim that red foliage evolved as a warning signal to insects in search of a winter home."
