Fanstory Fantasy

Reality’s an iron cage
In which I toil to earn my wage
But when I see your profile page
My thoughts fly to romance
I visit ev’ry now and then
To read the latest works you’ve penned
And dream about what might have been
If I but had the chance…

If I were twenty-five again
If romance were alive again
If youthful dreams could thrive again
Their object would be you
I’d use my poems to rhapsodize
That raven hair, those deep brown eyes
That sear my soul and mesmerize -
And each word would be true
Like Don Quixote on a quest
I’d put my love to any test
Work day and night and never rest
Until I won your heart
Then finally we’d share a kiss
And revel in romantic bliss
I’d make a “Mrs.” of your “Miss”
As new lives we would start
And even in those times of strife
With you beside me as my wife
I’d scorn the thought of afterlife
While this one’s so divine

Oh, what bliss to dream such dreams
A cageless world where beauty seems
To be illumined by moonbeams
Because your heart is mine

But now my wife has called to me
And roused me from my reverie
And so this fantasy of thee
Goes back upon the shelf

To be revived another day
When troubles loom and skies are gray
And worries once more heavy weigh
Upon my aging self
