This work has reached the exceptional level
a modified Sonnet for Picture This 10/9/17 artwork

Oh, how the young are intrigued by new stuff,
sopping it up with a dry sponge's thirst!
Often, it seems, they just can't get enough -
new discoveries spark, each fresh fact a first.

     Young empty vessels awaiting payload;
equations, place names, virgin words...secret goods.
And, oh, how they love when they learn to decode
ciphers that sort out the trees from the woods!

But if care's not taken, some may lose their way,
tangled and tripped-up in too much too soon.
It's not marching lockstep, it's more like ballet
where pliés and leaps reflect each child's tune.

A bad teacher mandates, a good mentor waits
for wonder to rise and 'can't' to abate.

In the spirit of using formalized education to inspire innovation
I have modified the technicalities (i.e iambic meter and syllable
count) - but kept the standard 4/4/4/2 construction, abab rhyme
scheme (with a closing aa couplet) and the convention of a turn
in the third stanza, to reimagine the traditional sonnet form :-)

plie' (plea- ay) - a ballet movement in which a dancer bends
the knees and straightens them again, usually with heels
firmly on the ground (i.e. pauses in place)
