Wilma Was a Witch

by Ogden

(After reading, see notes below)

When "witches” were thought to be such,
Wilma didn’t worry too much,
'til she learned at the stake
the mistake she did make:
"Those fools think no witches are Dutch."

NOTE
Why Wilma thought she was safe from the Salem inquisition:

Massachusetts was settled by refugees from England, while the Dutch preferred New York. So the Salem "witches" were mostly unpopular Puritans, and Dutch Wilma was, she thought, discretely doing whatever witching she did.
She was fatally overconfident.
