by sandy montgomery

In quiet moments
As day recedes
Jeweled clouds
Stain the sky

Distant hedges
Bruise the horizon
An amber globe glides
Beyond skeletal arms
Of gnarled oaks

Autumn dreams of summer
In cool grey twilight
Candled stars twinkle
As darkness snuffs
Suns flame

The world slumbers
Unaware that I wake

My mind strolls down
Shadowed paths of memory
Forsaking all those dreamers

Midnight takes the stage
Silence blasting
As the breeze
Sings in sighs

Soon dawn nudges
At the edge of night
Ebony turns to ash,
Then lavender slinks in
Brilliant pink bleeds
Across the sky

Fresh dew falls
Soon transforming
Into gilded pearls
Draped on silken webs
Frost etches the window
With a miniature white forest

Now I drowse
Slipping at last
Into dreams
Morning wakes the world
