The Project

I watched the spacecraft hover and the alien appear.
I felt my heartbeat racing and thundering with fear.
It stopped outside the doorstep of my isolated farm
and in a voice so deathly fierce, he said he meant no harm.

I asked him of the reasoning and what he was there for.
"I'm just selling candy-bars, going door to door.
A project for my high school class that's not too far from reach.
The highest sellers win a prize, a trip to Cocoa Beach.
The candy's quite expensive but meaningful in worth.
It's funding for a weapon we'll use obliterating earth."

I thought of all that man has done and what's yet still in store.
Then I said, "Oh what the heck, put me down for four."
