This work has reached the exceptional level
the hollowness of loss

by mfowler

My body's limp with melancholic flag
aligning to the drift of time. No vim
nor vibrancy; no reason to expend
a calorific clout to shake my world.
This started when she left. A body loose,
one case of flim and flam ... five years recouped
and packed like lunch for fun. She waved and smirked
as door met summer air. New love to find.
I watch the door meander. Shadows flick
and she returns for just a moment. Blank
like ghosts of time, her image fades till lost.
I'm empty. "Come back... Go... But give me peace."
Two months, perhaps. I've lost this time to grief.
I knew I'd  lose her... long before she  moved.
I sensed it in her tone, her loss of joy.
I lay, arms tied like knots, and hoped she'd choose.
