A poem about never giving up.
The girl looks bored
as she sits on the curb,
there's not much to do in this heat.
The sun beating down
is baking her brain
and the asphalt is baking her feet.
She's out of money, her clothes are just rags,
and life's just a song without rhyme.
She wishes she'd die,
but she doesn't really mean it,
because life wins out everytime.
The man with AIDS,
fights for his life,
and he know's that he's losing this round.
His family does nothing but cry all the time,
and his friends are nowhere to be found.
Sometimes he wishes the end would come soon,
as he prays to God for a sign.
But he hangs on to living, he'll never let go.
Because life wins out everytime.
The new young mother,
holds her tiny newborn,
the light of pride in her eyes.
Her parents, her friends and her lover all said,
get rid of it while there's still time.
But she sees herself when she looks at his face,
and her heart swells with love divine,
and now a new family is born on this day.
Because life wins out everytime.
The young man with the switchblade,
robbing the store,
runs from the cops down the street.
He's gasping for breath and he feels like he'll puke,
and he wishes for wings on his feet.
He might just be shot,
and he knows if he's caught,
he'll probably do some hard time.
But he raises his hands up,
he's made his decision,
because life wins out everytime.
The out of work father,
pounding the street,
is looking for some kind of work.
His wife is complaining,
the kids are all hungry,
and he feels like some kind of a jerk.
He'd like to keep walking,
and never look back,
but he just can't leave them behind.
So he'll keep on looking,
hoping and praying,
because life wins out everytime.
The old men standing under the bridge,
huddle round the garbage can fire.
They swap stories of glory,
in days gone by,
each of them a bit of a liar.
They pass around the bottle,
and eat when they can,
surviving isn't a crime.
They keep on going,
what else can they do?
Because life wins out everytime.
The world keeps on turning,
desires keep burning,
we try to make sense of it all.
We all keep on pushing,
and doing our best,
just hoping we don't take a fall.
There's not much more to say,
we've all dues to pay,
and fate can sometimes be unkind.
But love makes it worth it,
this business of living.
Yes, life wins out everytime.
