A Dangerous Game

by tfawcus

In better times
he was ensconced
in candelabra arms,
D cup at least,
(a silver-plated investment).

How came he to this guttered state
stuck in the neck of a bottle,
drained in gulps
of epiglottal snot
and snuffle,
to whine away his life
with cheap Rosé;

the love
she couldn't hold
a candle to,
or match?

O candle,
where is now your candlestick,
the one that held your flame
and waxen wick,
drip by drip,
to slowly wane?

He once waxed hot,
his flickered tongue inflamed
in matrimonial strife.
One breath, one blow;
a snuffed out
life.

Her glassy eye stared up at him
aghast,
and now the dregs in the bottle
haunt his mind
with this vision of
a throttled
axolotl.

It did not take the jury long
to reach their grim verdict,

that Colonel Mustard did it,
in the study,
with the candlestick.

For those of you who may never have heard of the game: Wikipedia describes Cluedo thus:
"Cluedo" (known as Clue in North America) is a murder mystery game for three to six players, devised by Anthony E. Pratt from Birmingham, England. The game was first manufactured by Waddingtons in the UK in 1949. The object of the game is to determine who murdered the game's victim ("Dr. Black" in the UK version and "Mr. Boddy" in North American versions), where the crime took place, and which weapon was used. Each player assumes the role of one of the six suspects, and attempts to deduce the correct answer by strategically moving around a game board representing the rooms of a mansion and collecting clues about the circumstances of the murder from the other players."
The first one to make a correct accusation wins the game.
