Just a sad picture of humanity
What Should We Be Doing
The mechanics of dream worlds, Lotus among the trees
Sing the song of loneliness, rhythms on the breeze
A moment caught in time, flashes of the past
Human lives spill over, they seemed to go so fast
And what are we doing here?
When we were little children, we wanted to grow up
Doing as we please, and drink from the elder's cup
But the story that was paid for, is not what you expect
Histories unwanted, just led to more neglect
Spinning round in mental realms, minds become confused
Falling ever farther down, nothing left, we're just abused
All the gold and silver pillaged, by greedy unknown souls
The Earth She cries out loud, not wanting to be sold
And what are we doing here?
Man's ambitions are feeding, the collective ego of humankind
Empathy and forgiveness, no longer do they shine
Economics have a greater need, everybody does want more
Freedom gone berserk, feeds the internet's porno whore
And what are we going here?
The world is so much smaller, when lies replace the truth
Little children growing up, lose innocence and youth
The elders there to teach them, already have lost control
Filth is feeding everyone and burying their sacred souls
And what are we doing here?
Tell me, what are we doing here?
People running from the truth, they close their blinded eyes
The evil rulers disappear, when we cover them with lies
Many, many, billionaires, have much more than they need
A tiny little parasite, feeds an insatiable devouring greed
Stories stretching endlessly, lies fill the empty void
Misconceptions of reality, create masks that rule the world
Peace on Earth a concept, swept beneath rulers feet
They walk upon broken lives and think they smell so sweet
And what are we doing here?
Tell me what are we doing here?
What should we be doing!

The poem was started as a song then unfolded in a direction I didn't expect.
