Honesty's A Virtue That Can Hurt You

Dan was known as a candid man;
He admitted he was a debtor,
But it was a mistake to tell his honey they owed so much money!
After all those years in tether, Dan definitely should have known better.

Write a two-couplet verse, incorporating one of the following puns.

debtor / better
man date / mandate
harm a knee / harmony
Ella meant / element
certain tea / certainty

Example:
Aunt Ella said we?d take little Ted to see the elephant,
But there was one complicating element -
Ted raised a fuss that buffaloed both of us
Her nephew misunderstood the meaning of what Aunt Ella meant.
