A Poem

by toz666

Fidel and Che were icons
Idols of my youth
Revolutionary fighters
For justice and for truth

Their images on t-shirts
And posters were cool
They stood for equality
A new way to rule

Che was restless
Lived by the gun
He died still young
But his image lived on

Forever of the 60s
Youthful and bold
His handsome face
Never grew old

But Fidel lived on
Through thick and thin
No early death
Could rescue him

He had his ups
He had his downs
His presence felt
The world around

The US tried to oust him
But never did succeed
Fidel was determined
Never to accede

And so he lived on
To ninety full years
His death when it came
Brought cheers and tears

He had built the best
Hospitals and schools
Cubans were healthy
And nobody's fools

But Fidel was a socialist
Who believed that equality
Was far more important
Than the rights of liberty

And Fidel was a dictator
Cubans toed his line
Capitalism was the enemy
And treated as a crime

So Che died a hero
A martyr through and through
And Fidel's death divided
The whole world into two

So is Che a hero
And Fidel maybe not
Or is it simply just because
One died old and one got shot

Pays one point and 2 member cents.
