a minute poem

tin arrows

by judester

Those cruel bully taunts, cannot haunt.
He only wants
to break me down,
shed tears and frown.

All the while, with a knowing smile
my clever wile.
I softly say,
"just go away."

Tin arrows on big battle ships,
your power slips.
Weak words, it seems,
meets self esteem.

The Minute Poem is a poem that follows the "8,4,4,4" syllable count structure. It usually has 3 stanzas that are exactly the same. So: 8,4,4,4; 8,4,4,4; 8,4,4,4 syllables.
A traditional Minute Poem has 12 lines total. It has 60 syllables. This doesn't have to have a strict meter. The rhyme scheme is as follows: aabb, ccdd, eeff.

In this traditional example the author included both the rhyme scheme (aabb, ccdd, eeff) and the syllable count (8,4,4,4 for each stanza).

A non-traditional minute poem does not have to rhyme. But follows the proper syllable count.

Thanks to MoonWillow for the perfect illustration. I would never let a bully shift my self esteem.
