This work has reached the exceptional level
A slow descent into madness.

by Maria Jose Garcia

In her mind something broke,
something snapped.
Blurry images
danced before her eyes.
Fractured music
scraped her ears.
And she smiled.
Vacantly, vacuously... unresponsive.

The men came and they coaxed.
Dimpled faces fought to seduce.
'Come with us,
We will treat you well.
We will put the pieces together again.
We will fix you.'
And she laughed.
Disbelieving, petrified ... terror-struck.

Behind the bars,
she looked at the sky.
Tears rolled down her cheeks.
She'd been tricked.
Blackness weighed on her chest.
And she cried.
Hopeless, wretched, desolate.

Only one more thing to do.
Say goodbye.
Pull the plug on this life.
Can't go on...
'Why did I lose my mind?
Why did God forsake me so?'
And she was hushed.
Extinguished, wiped out, obliterated.
