Fantasy From A Third Floor Window

by loismddavis

It is two o'clock
not two when the bright sun heightens
the colors in the Asian carpet
but two in the blue black of night

a window frames the dark sky
its subject a pale sickle moon
hung in the endlessness of space
no stars diminish its light

I live closer to the clouds
in my new singleness
I see street lanterns from the top
strings of sparkling rubies
in the distance

flickering tri-colored traffic signals
stop midnight travelers
headlights mimic eyes
of nocturnal animals

sleep is not coming
I will make some tea
watch a moving panorama
in my head as

I hear a strain of an accordion
as it duets with
Edith Piaf singing Je t'dore
I think I am in Paris
