I Want To Be Me

by brenda bickers

I’ve never been so popular,
as other girls have been.
I knew right from an early age,
I was no beauty queen.
I could change the way you see me,
slip on designer jeans.
Style my hair and paint my face,
the girl of someone’s dreams.
I could make my legs look longer,
Step into six inch heels.
Be a model on a cat walk,
and take those slimming pills.
But I’m not that perfect person,
that people wish to see.
The only fault I really have,
Is learning to be me.

I Am Not Perfect writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a poem about a flaw that you see in yourself.

The photo is of me and my two sisters at a horse racing day at Goodwood, England.
I am the one on the left in black. I have never been confident about my looks and it is hard to admit that I am in the photo.
