sunday's dawn

by judester

Sunday's dawn
reaches my kitchen porch.
The clay pots of fragrant herbs,
dew dusted
lined up,
basil
thyme
rosemary,
each with tiny flowers.

A painted pot of lavender.

My beloved dogs come to greet me,
sleepy, happy, loving.
rufus
jojo
pyro
milo
boss,
my canine family
settle down to watch the sunrise
with me.
Birds on a branch,
safe and high,
watch us.

Red, rough bricks in a haphazard pile
to become a dutch oven,
this afternoon's project.

Last night's fire
still smoulders,
crimson coals nestled in the ash.

Orchids
bagged in jute,
show off their rare blooms.
The diva,
vanilla,
zigzags up a tree.

One ball
two boots
three shoots
of ginger.

The fading snow of kilimanjaro
shines,
as the sun peeps,
through coral clouds.

I sip my steaming coffee,
grateful for the simple pleasures,
on a sunlit porch.
