A little sad song-ish poem that crept up out of me today.

Cat Steven's Hands

by Alice Lund

If I had the hands of Cat Stevens,
Surely then my hands would be enough.
I would write a song that had such feelin',
You change your mind about giving up.

I would sing you this song, and as I played guitar.
you'd beg me through fresh tears, "baby, please don't sing no more."
I wouldn't have to watch you drive away in your car.

If I had the hands of Cat Stevens.

But I don't have the hands of Cat Stevens.
And so my songs, they don't all sound so good.
I wonder if I'll ever find the reason.
You know I would explain it if I could.

When I close my eyes I see you, so I keep my eyes shut tight.
That's why my favorite time of day is when I sleep at night.
So in my dreams where I can play, I sing this lullaby.

And strum the air with these simple hands.
