Finding the courage to live.

A chapter in the book A Gift

A Lazarean Moment

by Unspoken94

Is there such a miracle
to call those who are living in tombs
   to come out of them?

Those who are entombed in difficult relationships
and fear taking risks of confronting what is wrong,
seeking help, or doing what must be done to
   care for themselves.

Those who are entombed in bad jobs.
   Holding on because they believe
that the misery of the present is better
than the insecurity of the future.

Those who are entombed with something
   they did in the past.
The memory of which haunts them,
plagues them with guilt and remorse.
Yet, they can't confess it and let it go.

Those who are entombed with resentments
   they keep holding and hugging.
Fearing that if they let them go
it will lessen the hurt they feel because of them.

Recovery comes when we will trust The One
who gave us life in the beginning.
When we trust The One who can give us life again.

Then we will find the power to let go,
rise and come out of that tomb.
The tomb we judged we could never recover from.

To free ourselves from this tomb
is an act of grace after all.

After all these years as a therapist, I continue to be astounded with the many ways
we humans put ourselves in positions that entomb us and keep us from living,
really living. Is it because we are so full of fear that we can't even love ourselves?
Just asking.
