Faith as I See It
                                    by michael cahill

I’m just a thief with my own cross to bear
and I’ve pain cutting deep and unignored.
From this pit in the dark I’m unaware--
what good are words when silence is implored?

Favor me a moment of sweet grace.
Shine a light of warmth upon my face!
Kiss my brow, a moment’s pain erase.

… peace within my space
… shield this pure disgrace

Within redemption, might a shadow hide--
a corner where stern judgment doesn’t view,
where payment due and justice won’t deride?

With humble, sad regret,
I’d start anew.

If you believe it true--

                            then do.

This is the basic premise of my faith, Christianity, at least in my view. I think religion gets bogged down in details and the essence gets lost. I hope I'm relating the essence here.

I'm tired of straight iambic meter, so I've varied it here and tried to add some punch in spots where I felt it needed it. Hopefully if you'll just read it without counting etc., it will come through as intended.
