the absence of my love

I Miss

by johnwilson

When he died, all things soft and beautiful and bright
would be buried with him.
-Madeline Miller

I miss

the flagrant link between our hearts
broken by life's most cruel gesture.
Your severe departure eradicated
freshness from air, astonishment
from any window's view.

I miss

your vanilla-honey scent scattered like
sticky notes--my every crevice
a deceitful nagging interloper.

The indelible tattoo carved into our hearts
dissolved any hearsays or ghosts of other
lovers clutched like clownish talismans.

Your symphonic hands beguiled unfamiliar
chords and butterfly-roaming smiles
spoke of precisely innocent happinesses,
blowing bubbles dancing among the waves.

I miss

your immensity and loss that stole those
simple pleasures, imposed a face of
wise strength and smooth sadness so
I could linger in sedate living rooms drinking wine
dreaming of sleep while others spoke of softer days.

I miss
me, you so carefully entwined
within your firmament of gardens, ocean and sky.
