There's just one thing above the law
love never thinks of self;
it has one thought - cannot discard
or leave you on the shelf.

Jesus said, "placate that blow
and turn the other cheek;"
a gentle word will turn away
that rage before its peak.

For love will walk that extra mile
knows only how to give;
it suffers long - resists all wrong,
concerned that all should live.

Now God is love; revealed in Christ,
who came to save all men;
no thought of self or lust-filled need
was part of Jesus' ken.

He gave Himself to face that cross
yet for our price was set;
the sinless Son of God was killed
my ransom's price was met.

True love considers not itself-
puts other's welfare first;
will live and die for mercy's sake
its one consuming thirst.
