How the stone of Easter relates to my stones.

A chapter in the book A Gift

An Easter Hope

I yearn for a miracle of hope
to burst forth in me this Easter
      hushing me
         healing me
            holding me
Bringing new life to my old hopes
and old promises back to life

As the ancient stone was rolled away long ago
let my stubborn stones roll away
from those dead places within me
where I have given up on others
                                                    on love
                                                             on myself

Let no cave or tomb
have the last word on me
Let my sepulchers sealed
   with cynicism and selfishness
   be opened

Fresh hope
whisper wild wonders to me again
      of a companion God
         of community beyond this life
            of compassion
   death cannot house

Oh soul
   tell the eyes
   what you have seen

At Easter, my journey urges me to pause and ask what stones do I carry that keep me from knowing a life without them and how freeing it can be to journey without that baggage.
